The vision to start Ilaro Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) was borne out of the concern to ensure that the teeming population of practising Engineers in Ilaro and its environs are catered for adequately. Apart from enhancing their professional growth and thus enable them to make their contributions to nation building, it is also to regulate the engineering practice in Ilaro and its vicinity.

The first ever meeting of the then proposed Branch was held on Wednesday June 17, 2009 with Engr. C. U. Okoye the then Dean, School of Engineering, The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro as the Initiator/Convener. Other members of his Steering Committee are Engr. D.W.S. Alausa, Engr. (Mrs) M. O. Balogun and Engr. O.P. Aiyelabowo.

Other Deans of School of Engineering Federal Polytechnic Ilaro who succeeded him (Engr. Prof. S.A. Olagoke and Engr. F.A. O. Akinboboye) sustained the vision by consolidating on his pioneering efforts and using their positions to promote the activities of the branch.

In 2015, a Resuscitation exercise focused on membership drive for Branch registration was embarked upon. In order to fast-track the election into different offices of the then proposed Branch for a successful take-off, a new Steering Committee was reconstituted in July 2016. Efforts were made to get full registration status with national body. These efforts eventually paid off with the commitment and sacrifice made by the pioneering members. The formal proposal for the registration of the Branch was submitted in November 2017. At the Council meeting held in April 2018, approval for the establishment of The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Ilaro Branch was granted. With this approval, the Branch became the 73rd in the Country.

Members of the reconstituted Steering Committee are : Engr. J. Ogunyemi (Chairman), Engr. O.O.Awolola, Engr. S.A. Fadare, Engr. B.A. Ojo, Mr. J.O. Olaoye Engr. Enemaku and Engr. O.I. Ogunyinka (Secretary).
